IPL 2024: 'Riyan Parag can offer something special to Indian cricket' - RR captain Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in the 9th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 on Thursday, March 28, with Assam's talented all-rounder Riyan Parag emerging as the star of the show at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

After Rajasthan Royals (RR) second consecutive win in the ongoing IPL 2024, captain Sanju Samson lauded Parag and predicted that the youngster will have a bright future in Indian cricket. Samson said that Parag can give sometally special to Indian cricket.

Parag showcased his prowess by notching up his third IPL half-century, propelling RR to a competitive total of 185/5 on the board, and then they restricted DC to 173/5 to seal the victory in Jaipur.

Parag's unbeaten knock of 84 runs off 45 balls, laced with 7 boundaries and 6 sixes, is his highest IPL score to date. This stellar inning put him in the race for the Orange Cap, having amassed 143 runs so far in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Sanju Samson said at the post-match presentation: “Riyan has been a big name in the last 4-5 years. Whenever I go back to Kerala, everyone keeps asking me about him and it's great to see him delivering for us. The season hasn't begun yet. Hopefully, he will continue his form. There is something very special he can give to Indian cricket.”

Samson showed confidence in Avesh Khan for the final over against DC despite having the options of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger, and he defended 17 runs, giving away just 5 runs to win the game.

He signed off by saying, “I think basically it's about what zones the players are in at different times. At times, they are in different zones. Some days, they are calm and composed. You have to tmakethe decisions looking at them. I felt Sandy was very calm and I went with him in the 19th over. Even Avesh was very calm in the last over.”
