Rajasthan Royals (RR) recorded their second consecutive win at home in IPL 2024, as they got the better of Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in Jaipur. This was the ninth successive win for home teams in the ongoing season.

DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first and his bowlers initially responded by reducing the Royals to 36/3 in the 8th over. Riyan Parag rebuilt the innings with Ravichandran Ashwin (29) who was promoted up the order and then Dhruv Jurel (20).

Parag brought up his fifty and then shifted gears, smashing 25 runs off the final over bowled by Anrich Nortje to help RR finish with 185/5. Parag remained unbeaten on 84 off 45 balls, his highest score in the IPL, while Shimron Hetmyer struck 14* off 7 balls in a 6th-wicket partnership of 43 runs in just 16 balls.

In reply, David Warner (49), Mitchell Marsh (23), and Rishabh Pant (28) got off to starts but couldn't capitalize and get the big score that DC needed from one of their key batters. Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets apiece for the hosts to build the pressure on the opposition.

Tristan Stubbs (44*) gave his team some hope towards the end but Avesh Khan bowled a superb last over, conceding just four runs with 17 needed to seal the 12-run victory for his team. Riyan Parag deservedly won the Player-of-the-Match award for his match-winning knock.

The cricketing fraternity lauded Avesh Khan for his final over and Rajasthan Royals for a hard-fought win. Here are some of the reactions:
