Murali Kartik, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, sparked controversy with his on-air remark about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Yash Dayal during match 6 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) on March 25.
Left-arm pacer Dayal, known for swinging the new ball both ways, triggered a bidding war between RCB and the Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2024 auction. Dayal was introduced to the auction at a base price of INR 20 lakh and sold to RCB for a whopping INR 5 crore during the IPL 2024 auction.
Notably, Dayal had gained infamy after he was hit for five sixes in the final over by Rinku Singh in a match between GT and KKR in IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad. This cost GT the match and Dayal had to take a break mid-season to gather himself.

However, in the RCB v PBKS match, Dayal was the pick of the home team's bowling attack and picked 1/23 in his 4 overs. His scalp in the match was Sam Curran, who fell for 23 runs.
However, former Indian spinner Kartik raised a few eyebrows when the commentator reflected on the IPL journey of Yash Dayal.
“Somebody’s trash is somebody else’s treasure,” Kartik said on-air.
These words of Murali Kartik didn’t sit well with the netizens who took to social media platform X to share their displeasure with the commentator.
