The first match of the IPL 2024 between CSK and RCB had some brilliant moments at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Chennai on March 22, 2024. The match began after a glittering opening ceremony featuring Bollywood stars and musicians.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat first. He gave the team a brilliant start with 35 in 23 balls with 8 fours. But after his dismissal at the hands of Mustafizur Rahman, RCB experienced a mini-collapse.
Rahman picked 4/29 as RCB was reduced to 78/5 with Kohli making 21, while Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell scored ducks.
But Anuj Rawat (48 in 25 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (38*) added 95 runs for the 6th wicket to take RCB to 173/6 in 20 overs.
In reply, Ruuraj Gaikwad, the CSK captain fell for 15 runs, but debutant Rachin Ravindra took the attack to RCB bowling. He smashed 37 in 15 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes.
After being hit for a six on the fifth ball of the seventh over, Karn Sharma dismissed Ravindra on the very following delivery. Ravindra went down on his knee for a slog sweep but ended up hitting the shot straight to Rajat Patidar at deep backward square leg.
As Ravindra was making his way out of the ground, the cameras caught Virat Kohli giving the 22-year-old Kiwi batter a sendoff including some expletives. The former India skipper asked Ravindra to leave the field with a hand gesture and was also seen dropping the f-bomb.
