Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal talked about the start date of the IPL 2024 as the 17th edition of the tournament will clash with the general elections in the country. He confirmed one thing that the tournament will take place in India itself.
Dhumal also said that the board will work with the government and other agencies before finalizing the schedule. Dhumal asserted that the fixtures will only be announced after the general elections' dates are confirmed by the election commission.
"We will work with the Indian government, and agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly...like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way," Arun Dhumal told IANS.
Asked if any tentative date for the IPL could be shared, he said, "It (IPL) will most likely start from March end... and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government."
A total of 74 matches are to be played in IPL 2024 featuring the ten franchises. There is potential for the tournament to be played in two phases with it clashing with India’s general elections during the same period.
