Afghanistan's all-rounder Mohammed Nabi has created history by becoming the oldest player to lead the ICC ODI all-rounders' list, ending Shakib Al Hasan's long reign at the top. This happened in the latest update of the ICC Rankings on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Nabi, aged 39 years and 1 month, reached the No. 1 spot thanks to his brilliant century in the first ODI between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. He scored 136 runs and also picked a wicket despite Afghanistan losing the encounter.
Nabi’s achievement surpasses the previous record held by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was 38 years and 8 months old when he topped the rankings in June 2015.
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan, held the no.1 spot in ICC ODI all-rounders rankings for an impressive 1739 days, from May 7, 2019, when he took over from Rashid Khan, until February 9. This is the longest unbroken stretch at the top of the ODI all-rounder rankings.
In Test cricket, there is no change at the top, with India's Jasprit Bumrah firmly positioned as the No. 1 bowler. Ravindra Jadeja, who is set to return to India playing Xi in the upcoming third Test against England, is still the no.1 ranked all-rounder in Test rankings.
In the ODI bowling rankings, South Africa's spinner Keshav Maharaj maintains his top spot.
