Notably, Gill had a remarkable IPL 2023 with the GT, contributing significantly to the team's journey to their second consecutive final. The 23-year-old was the leading run scorer in the IPL 2023 with 890 runs in 17 matches and won the Orange Cap.

After Hardik Pandya was traded to the Mumbai Indians (MI), Gill replaced the star Indian all-rounder as the GT captain for the upcoming season, and Nehara has full confidence in the youngster’s ability.
