Chennai Super Kings (CSK) plugged money in the IPL 2024 with their most expensive buy being New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell for INR 14 crores. They also bought Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for his base price of INR 2 crores later in the auction.
Mustafizur was Bangladesh’s only player sold in the auction after the BCB withdrew Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam due to workload issues and international commitments and also limited the availability of their players.
Mustafizur played for the Delhi Capitals (DC) last season before being released. The pacer is now expected to partner Matheesha Pathirana for the Super Kings in the pace bowling department.
The CSK franchise welcomed Mustafizur with a cheeky post on social media, reminding him of his collision with former India captain MS Dhoni during an ODI match in Dhaka.
Back in 2015, in the first ODI of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhoni and Mustafizur got involved in an ugly incident. The Bangladesh pacer had earlier obstructed India opener Rohit Sharma who was running to the bowling end for a quick single.
Rohit complained to the umpire and also warned Mustafizur to stay away when he was taking a run. Later, in the 25th over of the Indian innings, Mustafizur seemed to have moved towards Dhoni, who was looking to take a single. Thereafter, Dhoni palpably shoved Mustafizur with his forearm. Later, Mustafizur was fined 50 percent of his match fees. Dhoni copped a fine of 75 percent of his match fees.
This was also Mustafizur’s debut ODI and he picked a fifer to help Bangladesh defeat India.
Chennai Super Kings revisited the incident on social media with a post and captioned it: “From Collision to Coalition!”
