Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav on Saturday (December 16) shared a heartbreak emoji on social media, which left the fans wondering whether the post was made to express his emotions after the captaincy change at the IPL team.
Notably, MI on Friday (December 15) named Hardik Pandya as their new skipper. The all-rounder would be succeeding Rohit Sharma, who led the franchise to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
The leadership change comes less than a month after Hardik moved from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians with the 2022 champions receiving INR 15 crore in their purse for the IPL 2024 auction. It was an all-cash deal, making Pandya the first title-winning captain to be traded in IPL.
It seems like MI had a clear plan when they went above and beyond to get Hardik Pandya back into the fold. The franchise had identified Hardik as Rohit's successor and wanted to ensure a smooth transition.
However, this development has left the MI fans disappointed and they are venting out their frustration on social media.
When Surya posted a heartbreak emoji on X, the fans didn’t take any time to relate it to Rohit Sharma’s removal as captain.
