Pakistani legend Wasim Akram has categorically dismissed all rumors which flared news of a possible rift between Chennai Super Kings’ two best players in captain MS Dhoni and former captain Ravindra Jadeja during the recent IPL 2023.
Ravindra Jadeja had hit the winning runs against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final to win the match for CSK and MS Dhoni became a five-time IPL trophy-winning captain as well.
While Dhoni led the team with his tactical genius and calm head, Jadeja provided solidity in the middle order. But during the IPL 2023, there were some social media rumors of Jadeja not being happy in the CSK camp.
This was flared by the kind of posts that Jadeja put up after some of the matches which also involved his wife, Rivaba Jadeja.
However, Wasim Akram dismissed those concerns and said that MS Dhoni is a level-headed person, and if there was something, he would have cleared things with Jadeja.
"All these social media rumors...nowadays people write some story sitting at home and it becomes viral. Such idle we are. As far as Jadeja is concerned, the guy to bring him in, make him play, and give him confidence is Dhoni...he has played for so many years under him. Why would Jadeja have any rift with him? Knowing Dhoni, if there was a problem, he would have told him, beta idhar aao (son come here) and sort out things," Akram said on Sportskeeda.
"Jadeja even said that his captain was behind his performances. This is what is called leading from the front. We must laud Dhoni and CSK for winning the IPL five times, which is one of the most difficult tournaments in world cricket. After leaving cricket, Dhoni will remain in CSK as a mentor,” he added.
Furthermore, Akram praised Dhoni, calling him a gem of a cricketer, and mentioned that he had the passion, experience, and calmness during the IPL 2023, helping him lead the CSK side to their fifth title.
"Dhoni is a gem of a cricketer, a gem of a captain. He has won the IPL five times for a single team. It's a massive deal. Whatever team he is given, he takes them to the final. I think he has got experience, calmness, cool head, and cricketing sense, is physically fit, and is passionate. No matter how fit you are, if you are not passionate, the results won't be there," Akram said.
