IPL 2023: “He has all the credentials to become a great,” AB de Villiers names his favourite player of IPL 16

The 2023 edition of IPL witnessed a number of amazing performers, especially in the batting department.

Yashasvi Jaiswal | BCCI-IPLThe 2023 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to come to an end on Monday (May 29) with the final clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Just like the other seasons, IPL 2023 also witnessed a number of amazing performers, especially in the batting department.

Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 851 runs from 16 matches, including three centuries and four fifties. Besides Gill, there have been other batters like RCB’s opening duo of Faf du Plessis (730 runs) and Virat Kohli (639 runs) who have performed exceptionally well.

However, it was Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who impressed South African legend AB de Villiers the most.

An uncapped player, Jaiswal amassed 625 runs in 14 IPL 2023 games with one century and five fifties. The southpaw scores his runs at a strike rate of 163.61, leaving the fans and cricket fans mesmerized by his strokeplay.

Speaking on JioCinema, De Villiers had special praise reserved for Jaiswal and called him his favourite player of IPL 2023.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal for me and by a long margin for sure. He is a young player and has got all the shots in the book. He has a calm and composed temperament at the wicket and I love what he does, dominating the bowlers and always looks like he is in control," the RCB great said.

"Shubman is a little bit older, I think Jaiswal's got a long way to go, and he has all the credentials to become a great," he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in terrific form this season. Before the IPL, he scored 404 runs in five Ranji Trophy matches. As a result, the left-hander earned a call-up to India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final squad as a standby player.

Jaiswal replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad as one of three standby players for India. He joined Suryakumar Yadav and seamer Mukesh Kumar as the standby options for India, with the trio set to join the squad of 15 in London in coming days.

India and will face Australia in WTC final at The Oval in London from June 7 to 11.
