IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as MS Dhoni’s CSK defeats GT by 15 runs; to play in their 10th IPL final

CSK have qualified for IPL final 10 times in 14 editions they have participated in.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (60) and Devon Conway (40) were the top scorers for CSK | IPL-BCCIOn May 23, 2023, the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced off in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

GT finished first in the IPL 2023 points table with 10 victories and 20 points in 14 matches, while CSK ended second with 17 points from 8 wins and one no result in 14 matches.

CSK batted first after Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored 60 in 44 balls with 1 six and 7 fours before his dismissal after adding 87 runs for the first wicket with Devon Conway, who struggled to get rhythm.

Conway still managed to score 40 runs and with Ravindra Jadeja making 22 in 16 and Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu both making 17 runs, CSK managed to post 172/7 in 20 overs.

For GT, Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma took 2 wickets each.

In reply, GT opener Shubham Gill was once again the best batter for his side as he slammed 42 with 4 fours and 1 six before his dismissal. Wriddhiman Saha fell for 12 runs and he was then followed by Hardik Pandya (8) and Dasun Shanaka (17).

Ravindra Jadeja took 2/18, went past 150-wicket mark in IPL | BCCI-IPLDavid Miller followed for 4 and next was Rahul Tewatia for 3 runs. Rashid Khan hit some lusty blows to give GT hope but perished for 30 in 16 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. GT finished on 157 in the end.

For CSK, Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each. Jadeja also went past the 150-wicket mark in IPL in this match.

In the end, CSK won the match by 15 runs and will now fly to Ahmedabad for the IPL 2023 final on May 28th. GT, on the other hand, will also take the flight for Qualifier 2, where they will face the winner of the Eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, that will be played in Chennai on May 24.   

The cricket fraternity couldn’t help but laud the MS Dhoni-led CSK for this comprehensive win and for their qualification in the IPL final for the record 10th time.
