India batter and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul was hilariously targeted by Twitterati after the BCCI announced a great green initiative as the IPL 2023 reached its playoffs with the Gujarat Titans (GT) clashing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 in Chennai on May 23.
During the match, keen eyed fans noticed that tree emoticons being used on the scorecard ticker every time a dot ball was delivered during the course of CSK innings, who scored 172/7 in 20 overs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad top scoring with 60.
While many wondered the reason behind the same, it was confirmed by commentator Simon Doull on-air that it was part of BCCI’s new initiative.

As per the New Zealander, BCCI pledged to plant 500 trees for each dot ball in the four matches in the playoffs and hence the dot balls are being represented by trees in the match.
While BCCI was lauded for their great initiative towards the environment, some netizens turned their attention towards LSG captain KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a hip injury suffered in a match. Since then Krunal Pandya has taken over as captain and led the side into playoffs.
Twitterati made funny memes on KL Rahul’s strike rate in the IPL and his habit of playing dots and even said that BCCI will miss the opener as he would have single-handedly made a huge contribution to their trees planted on dot ball initiative.
