IPL 2023: “We had belief and with players like Stoinis and Pooran,” says Krunal Pandya after LSG’s win over SRH

The victory against SRH put LSG back in contention for a spot in the playoffs.

Krunal Pandya | BCCI-IPLLucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 58 of IPL 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday (May 13).

Chasing 183 to win, LSG rode on knocks from Prerak Mankad (64* off 45), Nicholas Pooran (44* off 13) and Marcus Stoinis (40 off 25) to get over the line in 19.2 overs.

This victory put them back in contention for a spot in the playoffs as the cash-rich tournament rolls towards the final phase of the league stage.

After the game, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya heaped praise on Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran for helping the side to return to fourth position on the IPL 2023 table featuring 10 teams.

“At this level anything is possible, we had the belief and with players like Stoinis and Pooran, we had to believe. We knew we had to go and there was nothing special (was said during the timeout), luckily it paid off for us and Abhishek's over changed the momentum,” Krunal said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“He's (Prerak Mankad) coming in for his first season and to come out and bat like that shows a lot of character, really happy for him to coming out here and score those runs. Even he will believe he belongs here,” he added.

Krunal Pandya admitted that he thought Sunrisers Hyderabad would post 200 but credited his bowlers for pulling things back towards the end. He credited Yash Thakur and Avesh Khan for restricting SRH to 182/6.

“With the way they were going I thought 200, but we pulled it back nicely towards the end especially by Yash and Avesh,” Krunal stated.

Lucknow Super Giants will next face Mumbai Indians at Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 16.
