IPL 2023: “Lacked one partnership that could have got us to 200-run mark,” Aiden Markram after SRH’s loss to LSG

SRH were dealt with a blow in their hopes for playoffs qualification after defeat against LSG.

Aiden Markram | BCCI-IPLSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 58 of IPL 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday (May 13).

Opting to bat first, SRH posted 182/6 on the board even though no batter managed to hit a half-century. Heinrich Klaasen was the top scorer with 47 off 29 balls while Abdul Samad (37* off 25) and Anmolpreet Singh (36 off 27) made handy contributions with the bat.

In reply, LSG chased down the target in 19.2 overs with key contributions from Prerak Mankad (64* off 45), Nicholas Pooran (44* off 13), and Marcus Stoinis (40 off 25).

After the game, SRH skipper Aiden Markram said that his team lacked one big partnership that would have helped them post 200 against LSG.

“I thought it was a decent score, I thought 180 was par. We batted well, probably lacked one partnership that could have got us to the 200-run mark,” said Markram at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“The wicket got slower throughout the day, we would have taken this total at the start. Pressure is an interesting thing, and the guys tried their best. When you are put under pressure by high-quality players like Stoinis and Pooran, you are going to be tested,” he added.

With this defeat, Sunrisers were dealt with a blow in their hopes for qualifying for the playoffs as they remained ninth in the 10-team standings with eight points from 11 games.

“It's about the guys using the next three games as opportunities, they must make it count,” Markram stated.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next face Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday (May 15).
