On May 10 at Chepauk, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by MS Dhoni, faced up against David Warner's Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2023.
After CSK won the toss, MS Dhoni decided to bat first. Dhoni also disclosed Ambati Rayudu's participation in the starting XI. David Warner also stated that spinner Lalit Yadav had been added to the DC starting eleven.
Ajinkya Rahane (21), Devon Conway (10), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (24) all had starts but failed to score significant runs. The batting got some momentum from Ambati Rayudu (23) and Shivam Dube (25), but they both quickly lost their wickets.
MS Dhoni’s quick 20 in 9 balls took CSK to a final score of 167/8. For DC, Mitchell Marsh took 3/18 and Akshar Patel took 2 wickets.
In response, the CSK bowlers stepped up as David Warner perished in the first over and Mitchell Marsh was run out for 5 runs.
After that, Dhoni used his spinners to good effect in the middle overs as DC struggled to find momentum on a slow surface. Rilee Russouw top-scored with 35 runs and Manish Pandey made 27, while Akshar Patel made 21 runs as DC only managed 140/8 in 20 overs.
For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana picked 3/37 and Deepak Chahar picked 2 wickets. CSK registered a 27-run-win, their 7th straight at Chepauk over the DC.
With the win, CSK moved one step closer to playoffs with 15 points in 12 matches, while DC’s hopes of resurgence took a hit as they remain at 10th spot with 7th loss in 11 matches.
