Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma was in a jovial mood as his team gave him the ultimate birthday gift of a win over Rajasthan Royals on April 30 in the ongoing IPL 2023 at his home of the Wankhede Stadium.
Rajasthan Royals batted first after Sanju Samson won the toss and posted 212/7 with Yashasvi Jaiswal hammering 124 in 62 balls with 16 fours and 8 sixes. The next best score was 18 by Jos Buttler as the young gun showcased his full armory of shots and awed the fans at Wankhede.
In reply, birthday boy, Rohit Sharma got out for just 3 runs, but Cameron Green (44), Suryakumar Yadav (55) and in the end over, Tim David with 45* in 14 balls and Tilak Varma with 29* took MI home in the final over.
David won the match for MI when 17 runs were needed off the last 6 balls, by hitting Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes on the first three balls of the over to seal the match by 6 wickets.
After the match, which was also the 1000th encounter in the IPL history, Rohit Sharma took time to meet and greet his fans and also took a couple of selfies.
In a funny video shared by MI on their Instagram, Rohit Sharma can be seen taking a fan’s phone for selfie and then walked away with the phone, with the fan shouting “Phone” at Rohit. After walking a few steps, the MI captain smilingly gives the phone back to the said fan.
