IPL 2023: “I don't think he is fit at all,” Simon Doull reacts to DC dropping Prithvi Shaw for the game vs SRH

Prithvi Shaw | BCCI-IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw has had a terrible start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, registering scores of 12, 7, 0, 15, 0 and 13 in six matches.

Shaw was used as an Impact Player in the last three games but he failed to replay the faith of the team management.

As it turned out, the 23-year-old was eventually dropped from DC’s line-up for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday (April 24).

"We know he is a very good player and he will be working to get back into the team. He is hungry and determined to get back and I have full confidence that he can do it," DC skipper David Warner said after winning the toss and opting to bat first against SRH.

However, former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull wasn't surprised at all by the DC management’s call to drop Prithvi Shaw.

"You can't continue down the same road. If things aren't working you have to change it up and he has to understand where he is at in his game. And right now, it's just not good enough,” Doull said in a conversation with Cricbuzz.

He lambasted Shaw for his lack of fitness, pointing out that despite being on the bench throughout the time against RCB, the opener was lazy in his running between the wickets.

“There was an incident with the run-out situation in Bangalore with Warner. He sat on the backside of the bench the whole time when Delhi were fielding and did nothing and later when he came out he was lazy with the running. These little things in the game matter and it comes back to haunt you at times. He has had a poor season and I don't think he is fit at all and has neither adjusted his game as such. He has paid the price," he added.

Delhi Capitals replaced Prithvi Shaw with Sarfaraz Khan for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
