IPL 2023: 16 bats, pads, shoes and other equipment stolen from DC players’ kit bags in transit – Report

The players came to know about it once they received kits in their respective hotel rooms.

Delhi Capitals | BCCI-IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) are enduring a dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. Having lost their five games so far, the David Warner-led side is occupying the last spot on the 10-team points table.

If their on-field woes were any less, several DC players have equipment stolen from their kit bags in transit.

The players came to know about it once they received kits in their respective hotel rooms after arriving in Delhi from Bangalore, where they faced RCB in an IPL fixture on Saturday (April 15).

Among the stolen equipment include 16 bats, pads, shoes, thigh-pads and gloves. David Warner, Mitchell March, Phil Salt and Yash Dhull were at the receiving end of robbery as their bats went missing.

“All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police and later at the airport. The investigation is on,” The Indian Express quoted a source as saying.

DCP (Airport) Devesh Kumar Mahla revealed that two men approached them with a complaint of equipment missing from their bags.

“Our duty officer asked them to write a complaint with all the details and gave them a paper. They said that they would get all the details and will file a complaint. Appropriate legal action would be taken,” the publication quoted Devesh as saying.

According to the report, the willows belonging to the overseas players worth a lakh rupees each.

A logistics company takes care of team kit bags and luggage and makes sure that they reach in advance to the destination prior to a game. The cricketers reportedly keep their kit bags outside the room after each game and the logistics company takes over thereafter.
