In a massive development, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Mohammed Siraj has reported a “corrupt approach” to BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU).

According to a PTI report, Siraj was approached by an unknown person who wanted inside news about his team after losing a lot of money in a previous IPL game.

Siraj, a key member of the RCB squad, received a call and reported the matter to ACU officials without any delay.

“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information.

“Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited,” a senior BCCI source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

During the 2013 edition of IPL, Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested on spot-fixing charges alongside former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan. Since then, the BCCI has beefed up its ACU work.

Each franchise has a dedicated ACU official who stays in the same hotel and also monitors all the movements on the ground.

Moreover, there is also a mandatory ACU workshop for players on dos and don’ts. In case, any player fails to report corrupt approach then he is ought to face the consequences.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was suspended in 2019 as he didn’t report fixing approaches from a bookie in that IPL season.
