IPL 2023: “We shouldn't lose wickets in clumps,” says DC skipper David Warner after team’s fourth straight loss

Delhi Capitals suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians on April 11.

David Warner | BCCI-IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday (April 11).

Asked to bat first, the Capitals were bundled out for 172 in 19.4 overs. Akshar Patel top scored with 54 off 25 balls while opener David Warner chipped in with 47-ball 51.

In reply, MI rode on skipper Rohit Sharma’s 45-ball 65 and Tilak Varma’s 29-ball 41 to overhaul the target on the final delivery.

With five runs needed in the last over, Anrich Nortje bowled his heart out, but couldn’t save DC from a defeat.

After the game, DC captain Warner praised his counterpart for his match-winning while also hailing Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman for their whole-hearted efforts.

“You look at the last three IPL games we have witnessed, they have been amazing. Wrong end of it today, but the guys were fantastic. Rohit played a fantastic knock at the top of the order. Nortje is world-class and that's what we expect from him. Mustafiz too. Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it at stump-height,” Warner said at the post-match presentation.

Warner also talked about promoting Akshar Patel, who smashed 4 fours and 5 sixes in his half-century.

“I think from the last three games, we've some positives but we shouldn't lose wickets in clumps. Akshar should bat in the top four the way he is striking the ball. From the last three games we have played, there are a lot of positives,” he added.

Having lost all their four games, Delhi Capitals are currently placed at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -1.576.
