Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opened their winning account in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season as they defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday (April 9).
Invited to bat first, PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan waged a lone battle, slamming 99* off 66 balls to propel the visitors to a respectable 143/9 in 20 overs.
Leg-spinner Mayank Markande starred with the ball for SRH, claiming four wickets by conceding 15 runs in his four-over spell. Marco Jansen (2-16) and Umran Malik (2-32) also returned with two scalps each.
In reply, the hosts rode on Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 74 off 48 balls and captain Aiden Markram’s vital 37* off 21 balls to overhaul the target with 17 deliveries to spare.
Arshdeep Singh (1-20) and Rahul Chahar (1-28) shared the two wickets that fell in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings.
Cricket experts on Twitter lauded Markram and company for their near flawless performance against Punjab Kings.
