Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) owner Kaviya Maran was ecstatic as the team picked their first wicket in defense of a paltry total against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 7, 2023.
SRH captain Aiden Markram, playing his first game as the skipper, won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch that was expected to be slow and low on bounce. And the entire SRH batting lineup strolled against disciplined LSG spinners.
Rahul Tripathi (34), Anmolpreet Singh (31) and Abdul Samad (21* in 10) were the major contributors to SRH’s total of 121/8 in 20 overs. For LSG, Krunal Pandya with 3/18 and Amit Mishra with 2/23 were the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, LSG had a good start as Kyle Mayers hit two fours, while KL Rahul also looked in great touch. While it looked that the openers will have a field day against SRH bowling, their impact player substitute Fazal Farooqui had other ideas.

On the 3rd ball of the 5th over, Farooqui bowled a short ball and Mayers pulled the ball in the air, but only managed to find the lone fielder on the leg side who was stationed perfectly on the longer part of the ground.
Mayank Agarwal gratefully accepted the catch and Farooqi and SRH celebrated their first wicket at 35 runs on the board.
Not only was SRH team joyful, but the owner Kaviya Maran, who is often seen at the auction table and now cheering for the team from the stands, couldn’t help herself and jumped in joy celebrating the wicket.
