IPL 2023: WATCH- “Once you say it, it becomes a demand”- Virat Kohli says never voice your expectations

Kohli also spoke on pressure from RCB fans on not winning an IPL trophy till now.

Virat Kohli in RCB's IPL 2023 opening match | TwitterRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter and former captain Virat Kohli has said that it’s always better not to voice expectations. Over the years, Kohli has kept raising the bar in all forms of cricket by showing an immense level of consistency.

Kohli had undergone a 33-month drought of centuries in international cricket and in 2022, he even failed to make half-centuries. However, he broke the curse by scoring his maiden T20I century in Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan.

He then scored centuries in ODIs against Bangladesh and New Zealand and finally scored his first Test century since November 2019, against Australia in the Ahmedabad Test recently.

I will give you one piece of advice: never voice your expectations. Have them, but keep them inside, never say it. Once you say it, it becomes a demand,” Kohli said in a video, uploaded on RCB’s Twitter.

Kohli helped RCB start their IPL 2023 with a bang as they defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets in their first home game in Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru. He scored 82* and added 148 with captain Faf du Plessis (73) to chase down the 172-run target with 22 balls to spare.

It feels amazing, honestly. Last time when I was here was 2019, same hotel. Now when I entered, I did not even see what the room looks like, I was in some other space, stressed all the time. Now after looking at this place, I ask myself how I not appreciated this hotel,” Kohli said on returning to Bengaluru.

Furthermore in his conversation with Mr. Nags, Kohli said that if there was ever a social media trophy, RCB would be clear winners and by quite some distance.

"Our social media performance is miles ahead of everyone. Get a trophy there, then watch. You bring one social media trophy and see how RCB will win. No competition only. Two weeks into the tournament, we will win. Don't need to play the last few games; 4-5 enough," Kohli said.

RCB is one of the original franchises out of the first eight, including Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to have never won an IPL title and has been trolled for the same on social media all this time.

"This is big franchise pressure. Lot of people take it as all fun and games like 'This team doesn't win'. Come and play, when there are so many expectations. We're a big team. Otherwise why would we have so many so fans if we were some faaltu team," added Kohli.
