IPL 2023: “He is fit enough to play for few more seasons”- Rohit Sharma on MS Dhoni’s future in IPL

MS Dhoni to lead CSK in IPL 2023.

MS Dhoni | IPL-BCCIMumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has given his opinion on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni’s future going forward in the Indian Premier League, ahead of the IPL 2023 edition.

Rohit and Dhoni are the most successful captains in IPL history with a combined 9 titles between them.

While Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2019, he has continued to play in the IPL and recently led the CSK in the second half of the IPL 2022, taking the captaincy over from Ravindra Jadeja midway into the tournament.

However, at 41, many feel that the time is nearing for MS Dhoni to retire from the IPL as well, and during the last edition, Dhoni himself had said that he wouldn’t quit without saying goodbye to fans in Chennai and across India who have given him so much love.

And with IPL 2023 to be played on a home and away format, Dhoni has that chance to show gratitude to the fans and many feel this tournament might be the last of the great cricketer.

MI captain Rohit Sharma and coach Mark Boucher addressed the media in a press conference on Wednesday. During this press conference, Rohit was asked about how long will the Chennai Super Kings skipper continue to play in the IPL.

With a smile on his face, Rohit said: "I don't know if this is his last season, I have been hearing this for the last 2-3 years and I think he is fit still playing, I think he will consider to play.”

Dhoni, also known as 'Captain Cool,' has been a member of the CSK team since the first IPL season in 2008 and has led the franchise to four titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.

Even his former CSK teammate Shane Watson had said that Dhoni can play for the next 3-4 years if he wanted to.

"I heard that this is the last IPL of MS Dhoni but I don't think. MS Dhoni can continue to play for the next three to four years. He is still very fit and batting and wicket-keeping really well. His leadership is something that is as good as his game. His fitness and mind-reading of the game make him a good leader. His skills on the ground are awesome. He is one of the main reasons that CSK is successful," Watson said to ANI.

Dhoni will be seen in action in IPL 2023 when CSK takes on defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
