IPL 2023: India's ODI stars to get a short break of 3-4 days before joining their respective IPL camps

The 2023 edition of Indian Premier League is slated to get underway on March 31.

India lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 against Australia | GettyAfter the ODI series against Australia came to an end on Wednesday (March 22), the focus of the Indian cricketers and fans now shifts to the 2023 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), starting March 31.

The Indian players, who featured in the 50-over series, will now join their respective IPL franchises. But before that, they will get a short break of 3-4 days.

India lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 against Australia after failing to chase 269 in the final game at Chepauk.

"Some players might join their IPL camps directly but they will have an option of taking a three-four day break and relax at home before touching base with their respective IPL teams," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Even if the players directly join the IPL camp, it is unlikely that they would be training for at least next 72 hours.

Earlier this year, the BCCI had said that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will work in tandem with the IPL teams to monitor the workload of Indian players shortlisted for the 50-over World Cup at home in October-November.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is all set to undergo lower back surgery and will not participate in the IPL, according to sources in the board.

The decision is being taken bearing in mind the player's interest as surgery right now will give him an outside chance of making a comeback before the World Cup in October.

Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna have already undergone back surgery.
