IPL 2022: Don't think he needs a break- Ravi Shastri opines on Rohit Sharma's batting woes

He hopes MI will learn from their mistakes that they made this season.

Mumbai Indians (MI) ended their poor IPL 2022 campaign on a winning note, as the franchise defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets in their final match of this season on Saturday, May 21.

Well, in this match, fans were hoping to see MI captain Rohit Sharma get back in form with the bat, but he made his way back to the pavilion for just 2 off 13 balls against DC at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, MI managed to win the match on the back of Jasprit Bumrah (3/25) and Ishan Kishan’s (48) brilliant form against DC in the 69th match of the ongoing IPL 2022.

While MI won just four matches out of their 14 outings in the IPL 2022, captain Rohit Sharma’s form was also disappointing, as he amassed just 268 runs at an average of 19.14, which is his worst-ever batting performance in the IPL history.

Reacting to Rohit’s dismal form, former India head coach Ravi Shastri is against the idea of Team India taking a break to find his rhythm with the bat, as he has already missed a lot of matches on the recent overseas tours due to injuries.

Ravi Shastri told Star Sports: “I don't think Rohit needs a break. In the case of Virat, he'd played every game for 1-1.5 years. In the case of Rohit, he's had breaks. He didn't go to South Africa. He missed half of the Australian tour. It's just one of those seasons where nothing clicked from the team's point of view. They are a proud combination and waiting to end the season well. So would Rohit, and he will get a break after that in any case. He will get 10-14 days before going to England.”

Speaking about MI’s performance in the IPL 15, Shastri said: “They (Mumbai) will sit back and see which are the areas where they can tighten up... like sprucing up the middle order and getting another fast bowler to support Jasprit Bumrah. Because for years, they had an established side.”

He signed off by saying, “But suddenly after the auction, there are five-six players who go away. You have a new bunch of players and it's not easy to assemble a unit. Hopefully, they (Mumbai) will learn from their mistakes.”
