As Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) forgettable IPL 2022 campaign ended with a five-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 21, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja reacted to CSK’s captaincy drama that happened during the middle of this season.
Just before the start of the IPL 2022, MS Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, who miserably failed to handle the pressure and deliver both as captain and all-rounder, and eventually decided to quit the job after six losses in the first eight matches in the tournament.
Thus, Dhoni returned to the helm, but CSK’s performance didn’t improve much under his captaincy either, as the defending champions finished the IPL 2022 with just 3 wins out of 14 matches.
Well, most of the calls were taken by Dhoni when Jadeja was captain, and then suddenly he decided to step down as CSK captain, leading to a lot of speculation about the equation between Dhoni, Jadeja, and the team.

Reacting to the unnecessary drama, Ajay Jadeja said on Cricbuzz: “Many players have come who have done well in batting and bowling, but there hasn't been a leader like MS Dhoni. That too, in this era, where there is added pressure because of social media. It was a little unfair (for Ravindra Jadeja), but with Dhoni there, it was inevitable.”
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag was critical of CSK and said that the franchise should have continued with Dhoni as captain for the IPL 15 while wondering how CSK would fare when the legend retires.
Sehwag explained, “MS Dhoni has performed better this year as compared to last year, so he should be back for next season. We've seen what happens to the team when he's not at the helm. Ravindra Jadeja was the captain in the first half and that's why they are in such a position on the table right now.”
He signed off by saying, “Under Dhoni, they would somehow always manage to make it to the top four. Just imagine how CSK would fare if he's not there in the team. I believe that will surely be there with the side next year. He'll only leave once he finds a suitable candidate for the leadership post.”
