IPL 2022: Irfan Pathan points out 5 positives for CSK in IPL 15 despite a bad season

Defending champions CSK ended their IPL 2022 journey with 8 points.

CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs second time in 15 years.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, failed to qualify for the  IPL 2022 playoffs, for the second time in their history. They ended this edition of the IPL with 4 wins and 8 points under their cap.

The season started with MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. However, after a series of defeats, Dhoni was once again made the captain with Jadeja focusing on his game.

Although Dhoni and his Midas touch could not save CSK, the team did end up performing better than they started. However, they still couldn't make it into the playoffs, ending the season with 4 wins in 14 matches and finishing on the 9th spot on the points table.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan however, picked up some positive takeaways for the yellow army despite a dismal campaign in IPL 2022.

In a tweet posted from his official Twitter account, Pathan listed 5 positives for Chennai this year. He wrote, “Despite the bad season for CSK, Here are the 5 positives for them. 1)Mukesh Choudhry 2)Davon Conway 3) Matheesha Pathirana 4) Maheesh Theekshana 5) Simarjeet Singh.”

Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh, and Matheesha Pathirana, the three fast bowlers from CSK got ample opportunities to play under Dhoni’s leadership. Choudhary ended up with 16 wickets to his name, while Pathirana took a wicket on his first ball on his IPL debut.

Devon Conway, the New Zealand opener accumulated 252 runs in 7 matches, with a strike as high as 145.66.

With Dhoni confirming that he would be playing for CSK in IPL 2023, the hopes are high for the CSK fans, as they look forward to a bounce-back next season.
