South African cricketer Quinton de Kock wreaked havoc in the 66th match of the IPL 2022 between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he tore through KKR’s bowling attack, scoring an unbeaten 140 at a strike rate of 200.
De Kock’s animated celebration after reaching the three-figure mark was a unique one and the star batter opened up about the same during the post-match presentation.
Speaking about his celebration, LSG opener De Kock said, "I was a little bit cooked (after his innings) but it was a matter of getting some refreshments and get on with it I guess. It was a bit of frustration that came out (on his aggressive century celebrations). Felt really good to come out and do well. Was trying to keep it in, but when it came out, felt good."
De Kock and KL Rahul (68*) put on 210 runs on the board, the highest opening partnership in the history of IPL and first time a pair of batters batted the whole 20 overs in IPL.
When asked about his thoughts regarding the result of the match, he replied, "To be honest, not really (whether he thought the game would get so close). Obviously, they played really well, assessed conditions well and came hard at us. I thought he (Stoinis) would defend it easily. But when the first three went, I thought the game was done for us. But that catch, turned things for us. As they say, good catches win matches."
LSG clinched the match by 2 runs, becoming the second team after the Gujarat Titans to qualify for the playoffs while knocking KKR out of the tournament.
