Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul, expressed his dissatisfaction following his team's 24-run loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday (May 15). They fell to third place on the points table after this defeat. 

After winning the toss, the Royals opted to bat first. They posted a solid total of 178/6 in 20 overs thanks to some fantastic batting from Yashaswi Jaiswal (41 off 29 balls), Sanju Samson (32 off 24 balls), and Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 18 balls).

In reply, the Super Giants could only manage 154/8 in 20 overs despite Deepak Hooda’s glittering half-century (59 off 39 balls). The chasing team has now lost two games in a row and has yet to qualify for the playoffs with one game remaining in the league stage.

In the coming matches, Rahul has stated that their batting needs to improve.

“It was a gettable target, a good pitch. The new ball was assisting the bowlers. We were good with the ball; the batting group has not performed collectively in a few games. We have to go back and get better. The pitch at Pune was harder,”  he said after the match.

The 30-year-old admitted that the ground at Brabourne was better than the one at MCA Stadium in Pune, further acknowledging that the side needs to figure out how to get a solid start when there is swing on offer for fast bowlers.

“This was a better pitch. There was seam movement earlier and they bowled well. Losing two wickets was bad, we've lost games because of that before. So we need to find ways to get a good start when there is movement with the ball.”

“Executing what we want to is the aim. Holding our nerve and give ourselves a chance to play out the new ball or play out a good spell. There's often enough time to make up and go big from there,” he said.

The Lucknow-based franchise will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last league encounter at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday (May 18).
