Gujarat Titans (GT) confirmed a top-two finish in the IPL 2022 league stage as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 62nd match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and now have 20 points to their name with one match to go.
CSK had won the toss and chosen to bat first. And included N Jagadeesan, Prashant Solanki, Mitchell Santner, and Matheesha Pathirana in place of Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, and Maheesh Theekshana. Gujarat Titans went in unchanged.
Devon Conway was out for 5, Ruturaj Gaikwad made 53 in 49 balls, Moeen Ali made 21 in 17 balls and N Jagadeesan remained unbeaten on 39 in 33 balls as the four-time champions managed to put 133/5 in 20 overs. Mohammad Shami picked two wickets for GT.
CSK’s IPL debutant Matheesha Pathirana struck on the first ball of his first game, as he dismissed Shubman Gill LBW for 18 runs and then in his next over, accounted for Hardik Pandya for 7 runs. But then Wriddhiman Saha made 67* in 57 balls with 8 fours and 1 four. David Miller also remained not out on 15 as GT reached the target with 5 balls and 7 wickets in hand.
