IPL 2022: ‘Disappointed with the way we batted’, Rohit Sharma after MI’s heavy loss to KKR

MI were bowled out for a paltry 113 in 17.3 overs while chasing KKR's target of 166.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just 2 | BCCI/IPLMumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma showered rich praise on speedster Jasprit Bumrah for his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket, but he expressed disappointment over his team’s dismal batting performance in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at DY Patil Stadium on Monday (May 9).

Riding on Bumrah’s remarkable bowling figures of 5 for 10 in four overs, MI restricted KKR to 165/9 after opting to field first.

In reply, however, the MI batters failed to step up to the plate as the five-time champions were bundled out for a paltry 113 in 17.3 overs. It was a listless batting performance as no one except for Ishan Kishan (51) managed to touch the 20-run mark.

"We would take that total any day on that kind of a pitch. To see how things unfolded in the second half of the innings for us was a great effort from the bowling unit. Bumrah was special today," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

"But I'm disappointed with the way we batted. I thought it was a par score on that pitch but it was a little poor from the bat from us. We're playing our fourth game here so we know what to expect from a pitch like that. There were a few balls that took off, but that happens.

"We know seam bowlers will get help, but we didn't bat well, didn't get partnerships and that was something missing from our side today," he added.

The MI captain rued the fact that the batting unit could not take advantage of a special spell from Bumrah.

"Looking at how they batted in the first 10 overs, I think they were 100 in the first 10 or 11 overs, but the way we came back was brilliant.

"Bumrah was special... It was a great effort from him and the entire bowling unit. The batters let us down today. That's been the story for us. The consistent performance from both departments has been missing. We couldn't do it today," Rohit said.
