IPL 2022: “We are moving in the right direction”, Faf du Plessis after RCB’s win over CSK

RCB moved to the fourth spot on the points table after beating CSK.

RCB defeated CSK by 13 runs | BCCI/IPLAfter losing three games on a trot, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Wednesday (April 5) finally got back to winning ways as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 13 runs at MCA Stadium in Pune.

Invited to bat first, RCB posted 173/8 in their 20 overs with vital contributions from Mahipal Lomror (42 off 27 balls), skipper Faf du Plessis (38 off 22 balls), Dinesh Karthik (26 off 17 balls), and Rajat Patidar (21 off 15 balls).

Defending the total, RCB restricted the defending champions to 160/8. Harshal Patel (3-35) and Josh Hazlewood (1-19) once again starred with the ball, bowling brilliantly in the death overs and picking four wickets between them. Glenn Maxwell also returned with the impressive figures of 2 for 22 while Shahbaz Ahmed (1-27) and Wanindu Hasaranga (1-31) claimed wicket apiece.

Speaking after the game, RCB captain Faf du Plessis said they are moving in the right direction but they need to do some improvement in the batting line-up.

"We definitely needed that. We put up a decent total. We are moving in the right direction. We have been very good in the bowling department. I thought 165 was a par score on that and anything above that was a bonus," he said in a post-match presentation.

Du Plessis praised his bowlers and stated that they are lucky to have experienced guys in the middle.

"I thought the Powerplay was a good time to score. The fielding was amazing. Some great catching and good bowling indeed. We are very lucky to have experienced guys. Very good to have me lean on the senior players," he added.

Calling for the improvement in batting, Faf said: "Just keep improving in the batting department. We want one of the top four to bat through. Need to keep playing the positive brand of cricket. Once you get an opportunity to think of the run rate in a match, you will be able to put on the gas and go for it."

With this victory, RCB moved to the fourth spot on the points table with 12 points from 11 games. They will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 8.
