Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI)  have had a disastrous campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise’s loss to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) marked their 8th consecutive defeat, thereby ending their chances of reaching the playoffs.

Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Dewan Brevis, other batters haven’t scored much. Opener Ishan Kishan, MI’s most expensive buy, started well but soon suffered a slump. The 23-year-old has only managed to score 199 runs in eight matches, with an average of a little under 29.

Skipper Rohit Sharma’s batting woes are even more alarming. The star batter has managed just 153 runs from eight outings, averaging 19.13.

But the MI batting coach Robin Singh, while speaking at the virtual pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Rajasthan Royals, backed the openers and said that they will find form soon.

"We've addressed a few things that we feel that he (Kishan) can improve on. Obviously, it's about getting better during the course of the game," Robin said.

"As you know, he (Kishan) started very well. But he fell away a little bit. We sort of revisited the entire tournament, we addressed a few things and we're hoping that he'll get back the same sort of form that he started with," he added.

Commenting on Rohit, Robin Singh said that the captain understands his role and has put in a lot of effort at the nets and on the field.

"As a batsman you need to address what you think is important to you. I think he's (Rohit) put in a lot of work. We've spent a lot of time with him, at the nets, at the ground. And I think like Ishan Kishan, we have addressed what he needs to do."

"As an individual, as a batsman, as a senior batsman, he knows his responsibility. So that is something he has put his hand up for and I'm pretty sure he'll come back very strongly," Singh said.

MI will take on Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday (April 30.
