Former England captain-turned-commentator, Kevin Pietersen said that he was just overwhelmed after seeing such a huge crowd welcoming and cheering for the legendary MS Dhoni during the 38th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 25.
Dhoni walked into the middle in the 18th over of the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) innings against the Punjab Kings (PBSK). When Dhoni sent the first delivery of the final over off Rishi Dhawan into the stands, the fans erupted at the Wankhede Stadium.
Pietersen said that the atmosphere of the stadium was just incredible as the fans were cheering for Dhoni despite the fact that CSK lost the match by 11 runs to PBKS.

The commentator also noted that the way fans cheered for Dhoni at the Wankhede Stadium is a testament to why the IPL deserves to be held in India with crowds in attendance and the ever-increasing love for MSD.
Pietersen told Star Sports: “It was unbelievable. It was incredible. That's exactly why the IPL deserves to be played in the country. The energy and excitement of that man coming to the wicket is none other than like anywhere else. It's not a full capacity here as the bottom tier is placarded because of the restrictions. However, that did not matter at all.”
He added, “It was difficult calling the game, it was so noisy inside the commentary box. The support for him, the CSK, and the IPL is incredible. It's still noisy. The game's finished, they lost and it's still noisy. Incredible!”
