Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed in Match 31 of the IPL 2022 on Tuesday (April 19) at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl first as has been the case in every match of the ongoing season so far. RCB were jolted after the early dismissals of Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli but then recovered courtesy captain Faf du Plessis (96), who put on important partnerships with Glenn Maxwell (23) and Shahbaz Ahmed (26). In-form wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik chipped in with 13* off 8 balls as RCB ended their innings at 181/6.
LSG's start wasn't the greatest either as they too lost two early wickets, before KL Rahul (30) and Krunal Pandya (42) somewhat stabilized the innings but could not go on to get a bigger score. LSG kept losing wickets at regular intervals and after 18 overs, LSG needed 34 off 12 balls with big hitters Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder at the crease.

Josh Hazlewood, who was having a great night with the ball, bowled a very widish delivery away from Stoinis who was getting across his off stump as the batter let it go expecting a wide call, but umpire Chris Gaffaney ruled in favour of the bowler and did not signal the wide. Stoinis had a surprised smile on his face as he gestured towards the umpire before getting ready to face the next delivery.
Hazlewood sensing Stoinis would go across further, bowled it closer to the batter as he tried to go for the big shot only to find his stumps disturbed. It seems the wide which was not given had made the all-rounder lose his concentration, as he reacted furiously and sweared loudly which could be heard easily by the stump cam.
