Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer was not pleased with the casual fielding effort of his teammate Venkatesh Iyer during the side’s IPL 2022 clash against Rajasthan Royals at Brabourne Stadium on Monday (April 18).
During the third over of RR’s innings, Jos Buttler tapped the ball to Venkatesh Iyer at point. Even though Buttler’s opening partner Devdutt Padikkal was well inside his crease, Venkatesh fired a throw that saw the ball ricochet off the wicket, allowing the Royals openers to take another run.
The turn of events left Shreyas Iyer frustrated. The cameras caught the KKR captain visibly upset at Venkatesh as the innings progressed.

It was a forgettable outing for Venkatesh Iyer as the all-rounder was at the receiving of Shreyas Iyer’s scolding in KKR’s innings as well.
During the 16th over of KKR innings, Shreyas wanted to take the second run on a delivery but Venkatesh rejected the captain’s appeal. The miscommunication between the two batters could have easily resulted in a run-out but luckily Shreyas Iyer reached his end safely.
This incident also saw the angry side of the KKR skipper as he was seen scolding Venkatesh after reaching his crease.

Coming to the match, Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a heartbreaking 7-run defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals.
Chasing 218 to win, KKR lost Narine on the very first delivery for a duck but the duo of Aaron Finch and captain Iyer added 107 runs for the second wicket to keep the team very much in the contest
Prasidh Krishna broke the partnership by dismissing Finch on 58 off 28 balls. While Shreyas continued to attack the Rajasthan bowlers, Knight Riders kept losing wickets in quick succession. The likes of Nitish Rana (18), Andre Russell (0), and Venkatesh (6) failed to make a mark with the bat.
Thanks to Shreyas Iyer, KKR were still in the chase with 40 needed off the last four overs with 6 wickets in hand. However, Yuzvendra Chahal (5-40) changed the course of the match in the 17th over as he took four wickets, including a hat-trick with the successive dismissals of Shreyas (85 off 51 balls), Shivam Mavi (0) and Pat Cummins (0).
In the death overs, Umesh Yadav produced a blistering cameo (21 off 9 balls) for KKR but it wasn’t enough. RR debutant Obed McCoy removed Sheldon Jackson and Umesh in the last over to bundle out the Knight Riders for 210 with two balls still left in the innings.
