IPL 2022: "We didn’t execute our plans," Ravindra Jadeja after CSK's 3-wicket loss to GT

Chennai Super Kings suffered their fifth loss of the IPL 15 season.

David Miller and Rashid Khan snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for GT | BCCI - IPL

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday (17th April) talked about the loss his side suffered against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 29th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Pune. He admitted that his side failed to execute plans in the last five overs.

CSK once again had a disappointing outing as they suffered a 3-wicket loss against GT to mark their fifth defeat in the IPL 15. Invited to bat first, the Jadeja-led side lost Robin Uthappa (3) and Moeen Ali (1) early but Ruturaj Gaikwad stood tall for his side and returned to form, which was the biggest positive for them.

The opening batter scored 73 runs in 48 balls and stitched a 92-run partnership with Ambati Rayudu, who scored 46 runs. Shivam Dube (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (22) finished the innings decently and helped CSK post a fighting total of 169 runs on the board. For GT, Alzarri Joesph was the pick of the bowlers and returned with the figures of 2/34.

Chasing the target, it wasn’t quite a fruitful start for GT, who were without Hardik Pandya, as they lost Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar for ducks. Wriddhiman Saha (11) and Abhinav Manohar (12) got starts but fell early as they found themselves tumbling at 48/4. Rahul Tewatia also struggled and could manage only 6 runs in 14 balls.

But after that, it was David Miller’s show. The southpaw played a sensational knock of 94* runs and smashed CSK bowlers all over the park to take his side home. He was accompanied by stand-in captain Rashid Khan, who scored quick-fire 40 runs. Notably, the leg-spinner smashed 25 runs off Chris Jordan in the 18th over, which turned the game towards GT.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Ravindra Jadeja credited Miller for playing ‘good cricket shots’. He said that with the way the wicket played in the first innings, they thought 169 was a par score.

“We started brilliantly. First six overs were good as a bowling unit, but credit goes to Miller, played some good cricket shots. When we were batting, wicket was gripping and ball was holding so we thought 169 was a par score,” Ravindra Jadeja said.

Jadeja admitted that they didn’t execute their plans well in the last overs. He also talked about his decision to give Chris Jordan the last over.

“But we didn’t execute our plans in the last five (20th over). I think CJ (Chris Jordan) is experienced so I thought let me go with him. He can bowl 4-5 yorkers. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen today, that’s the beauty of T20 cricket,” he said.

CSK will next face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, who are winless so far, on Thursday (21st April) at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
