IPL 2022: Ahmedabad likely to host IPL 15 final; playoffs to be staged in Lucknow or Kolkata – Report

IPL 2022 trophy | BCCI/IPLThe Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final is likely to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while the playoffs will either be played in Lucknow or Kolkata, Times Now reported on Monday (April 12).

As per the schedule, the league phase of the IPL 15 season is due to end on May 22 and the final is slated to take place on May 29.

"IPL final will be played in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Discussions are on to decide the hosts for play-offs with a divide between Lucknow and Kolkata as options. BCCI to decide soon between the two cities. While one section believes it should be Lucknow for being the new entrant, others believe Kolkata should also get important matches," Times Now quoted a source as saying.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to take the final call on this matter.

Notably, the league matches of IPL 15 are being held across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune. While the Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium have been assigned 20 matches each, Brabourne Stadium and MCA Stadium have been allocated 15 games each.

As of April 12, Rajasthan Royals are leading the IPL 2022 points table with 3 wins from 4 games, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders (3 wins from 5 matches), Royal Challengers Bangalore (3 wins from 4 matches), Lucknow Super Giants (3 wins from 5 matches), Gujarat Titans (3 wins from 4 matches).

The aforementioned teams appeared to be the strongest contenders for a top-four finish.
