IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Kane Williamson’s 57 powers SRH to 8-wicket win over GT

Kane Williamson scored 57 off 46 balls | BCCI/IPLGujarat Titans (GT) suffered their first defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 11).

Asked to bat first, the Titans posted 162/7 in their 20 overs on the back of skipper Hardik Pandya’s 50 not out off 42 balls. Abhinav Manohar also made a notable contribution of 21-ball 35.

For SRH, T Natarajan (2-34) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2-37) picked up two scalps each while Marco Jansen (1-27) and Umran Malik (1-39) chipped in with wicket apiece.

In reply, the Sunrisers overhauled the target with five balls to spare. Opening the batting, captain Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma led the foundation of the successful chase with a 64-run partnership. While Abhishek scored 42 off 32 balls, Williamson went on to hit a half-century (57 off 46 balls).  

After their dismissals, Rahul Tripathi (17 retired hurt), Nicholas Pooran (34* off 18 balls), and Aiden Markram (12* off 8 balls) completed the job and took the team over the line.

For their impressive show, Williamson and company received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
