Indian Premier League (IPL) saw history being made on Sunday (April 10) when Rajasthan Royals (RR) met Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 20 of IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bowl first as has been the trend in the tournament. Both teams made couple of changes as RR replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal and Navdeep Saini with Rassie van der Dussen and Kuldeep Sen, while Marcus Stoinis and Dushmantha Chameera came in for Evin Lewis and Andrew Tye for LSG.

LSG had RR tottering at 67/4 when Shimron Hetmyer was joined by R Ashwin in the middle, who was promoted ahead of Riyan Parag. Hetmyer went on to score 59* in 36 balls, and Ashwin made 28 in 23 balls before he retired out in the 19th over - the first ever such dismissal in the history of IPL. The move allowed Riyan Parag to join Hetmyer for ten balls, though he was dismissed for 8 in 4 balls.

RR finished their innings at 165/6, which was much more than what it seemed like at one time with LSG in complete control of the proceedings.

Ashwin was praised by the cricketing fraternity for the 'out of the box' thinking that could be employed by other franchises as the season progresses. We have some of the tweets:
