Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Glenn Maxwell on Thursday (7th April) said that Faf du Plessis has earned the respect of everyone in the dressing room and they are confident that he will do a great job as a skipper.
Ahead of the IPL 2022 season, RCB appointed Du Plessis as the captain of the team after Virat Kohli's resignation. The South African batter didn’t have a fruitful start to his stint as the skipper of the franchise as KKR thrashed them in their first match of the tournament.
However, they made a great comeback after that and won their next two matches by displaying staggering performances. Batting at the top, Du Plessis led from the front and provided starts for his side. He so far has scored 122 runs in three games and is sixth on the list of ‘Orange Cap’ holders.

Speaking to RCB ‘Bold Diaries’, Glenn Maxwell, who missed the first three matches, said that Faf du Plessis has earned the respect of everyone in the dressing room and they are confident that he will do a great job for the franchise.
“We think he’s (Du Plessis) going to do a great job for the franchise and even the way he started, you can tell he’s got the respect of everyone in the room. Not only does he lead by example, with his actions, but he also performs really well,” Glenn Maxwell said.
Maxwell said that having someone of Du Plessis ‘quality and caper’ at the top of the other is a great thing for RCB. He said that with senior guys in the team now the Proteas batter didn’t need to shoulder all the workload as others will need to step up and help the skipper out as part of the leadership group.
“To have a guy of his quality and caper up the top of the order is something that’s great for the franchise. And hopefully, the senior guys around can help him out as well. So, it’s not just him shouldering all that workload we’d potentially have seen in the previous years at RCB.
“To have, I suppose, a solid leadership group behind him to sort of feel like it’s not just him out there having to shoulder all the load. Hopefully, we can help him out at different stages. But we’re very fortunate with the squad that we’ve got. We believe it’s a winning squad,” he said.
Talking about Dinesh Karthik, whom Maxwell shared dressing with in 2013 at MI, he said that the ‘old fella’ is doing good and it’s good for the team have depth in the batting order.
“He’s (Karthik) been awesome. Just come in great form. Old fella is still doing it. I played with him in 2013 in Mumbai. Nine years later, we find ourselves back in the same change room. So, to see him go really well, and start well for us is awesome for us. We love having that depth in our batting order and he certainly gives it to us,” he said.
Maxwell said that he had quality training sessions after he arrived in Mumbai and is eagerly waiting for game night.
“I haven’t done much over the last few weeks. I was looking forward to getting over here. I know I had a week from when I landed to the first game that I was playing, so, I wanted to do that as preparation time and know that I can get myself up to match ready for that first game,” he said.
Both Du Plessis and Maxwell will be next seen in action when Royal Challengers Banglore will face Mumbai Indians in their next match at MCA Stadium in Pune.
