Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag on Thursday (7th April) clarified his recent 'vada pav' tweet after Mumbai Indians (MI)’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 14 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, after backlash from fans of Rohit Sharma.
MI suffered a 5-wicket thrashing defeat at the hands of KKR. The match saw Pat Cummins’ brilliance with the bat as he recorded the joint-fastest fifty in the history of IPL. He tonked Daniel Sams for 35 runs in the 16th over and won the game for his side with 4 overs to spare.
Many fans and pundits lauded Cummins for his heroics after he snatched victory for his side from the jaws of defeat. Virender Sehwag also praised the Australian Test skipper for the ‘most insane display of clean hitting. Drawing reference to Mumbai's famous snack 'vada pav', the former Indian cricketer lauded him for snatching the win from MI.
“Moonh se nivala cheen liya ,, sorry vada pav cheen liya. Pat Cummins, one of the most insane display of clean hitting , 15 ball 56 ... Jeera Batti,” Sehwag tweeted.
Sehwag’s tweet didn’t go well with many fans, who criticised him for his comments and also asked him for the clarification. The former Indian skipper then explained his words and asked MI fans to cool down.
“The Vada Pav reference is for Mumbai, a city which thrives on Vada Pav. Rohit fans thanda lo , I am a bigger fan of his batting much more than most of you guys,” he stated.
Mumbai Indians will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday (9th April) at MCA Stadium in Pune.
