It's not easy to succeed Virat Kohli as captain, but Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) didn't hesitate to hand over the mantle to former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2022 season.

RCB had one win and one loss in their first two games of the IPL 2022 season, but Du Plessis has garnered accolades for his batting and leadership.

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Akhtar, on the other hand, is not impressed with the Proteas cricketer. He revealed in a conversation with Sportskeeda that he isn't a big fan of Du Plessis since he hasn't seen anything spectacular from him during his captaincy.

Faf has won the IPL on many occasions with Chennai Super Kings, but this is his first time as a captain in the T20 tournament with RCB.

“Virat has quit leadership and Du Plessis has taken over, so he will lead in his own way. I am not a huge fan of Faf du Plessis because I don’t see anything (special) in his captaincy.”

“Virat has been a very unfortunate captain for both India and RCB. He tried his best, but it didn’t work for them. Having said that, Faf has a point to prove. At times, he doesn’t look that sharp during his leadership. He has been given the responsibility of leading a huge franchise, so let’s see if he is able to revive their fortunes,” Akhtar said.

In regards to Du Plessis' stint with the Super Kings, Akhtar expressed misgivings about the South African's probable success with the team.

“He played for Chennai for a long time and he has a good idea of how things work. However, I am not sure how far Faf will go from here. If he does that, hats off to him, but I still have my reservations.”

Du Plessis was the second-highest run scorer in the IPL 2021, with 633 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.21 and a strike rate of 138.20. Last year, he was a key figure in CSK's title success. Will he be able to have the same effect at RCB? It will have to wait and see.
