IPL 2022: Match 9, MI v RR – COC Predicted Playing XIs

DY Patil Stadium will host the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

The match is expected to be a high-scoring affair | BCCI/IPLThe 9th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will see Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday (April 2).

Both the team had different starts to their IPL 2022 campaign. While the Royals thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 61 runs in their opening fixture, the five-time champions suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC).

RR will aim to carry the winning momentum whereas MI will look to register their first win when both teams will square off at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

Ahead of the game, Team COC presents to you the Predicted playing XIs of Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

MI lost to DC in their IPL 2022 opener | BCCI/IPLThe pair of captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan batted with intent in the first game, and it is unlikely that the Mumbai Indians will disturb the opening combination for the second game. While Rohit scored 41 against DC, Kishan made 81* and the duo put on 67 runs for the opening wicket.

With Suryakumar Yadav’s return to the squad after recovering from a thumb injury, Anmolpreet Singh is likely to sit out. Notably, Anmolpreet batted at No. 3 in MI’s season opener against DC and scored 8 off 9 balls.

Tilak Varma, who scored 22 off 15 balls in the first match, should retain his place in the batting line-up at No. 4 followed by all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Tim David, and Daniel Sams.

Murugan Ashwin returned with impressive figures of 2/14 in his four overs against DC and he will play as a specialist spinner.

Coming to the pace department, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the attack alongside Tymal Mills and Basil Thampi.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR defeated SRH in their IPL 2022 opener | BCCI/IPLRajasthan Royals are unlikely to make any changes to their batting line-up after a stunning display against SRH. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings followed by skipper Sanju Samson at No. 3.

Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 41 off 29 balls while playing at No. 4 in the first match, should hold the key position while swashbucklers such as Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag will fill the remaining two batting slots.

During the final over in the game against SRH, pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile injured himself while landing and was taken off. Considering the fact that the tournament is still in the early stage, RR wouldn’t want to take any risk with Coulter-Nile and Jimmy Neesham is likely to come in his place in the XI.

Coming to the bowling attack, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal will play as premier spinners while Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna will feature as pacers.
