IPL 2022: WATCH- Mind captaining one more season so I can play under you? - Conway recalls asking Dhoni

Conway made his CSK debut against KKR in IPL 2022 opening match.

MS Dhoni | IPL-BCCIMany were left in shock when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced that their mercurial leader MS Dhoni had stepped down from captaincy and handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja just two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season.

MS Dhoni is by far one of the most successful captains in IPL history with four titles to his name and took the CSK team to the finals nine times. The Chennai Super Kings have made it into the playoffs of all their seasons participating in the tournament, apart from IPL 2020.

In the IPL 2022 auction, CSK landed a huge heist of sorts when they signed up New Zealand’s talented opener Devon Conway for his base price of INR 1 crore.

In a video posted by CSK, Conway is seen talking about his conversation with MS Dhoni and how he asked him to stay on as CSK captain for one more season so that he could play under his leadership.

Conway said, "I was wanting to play under the great MS as captain. I had a nice little conversation with him. I said, ‘you’re sure you don’t want to captain one more season so I can play under you as captain?’ But he said, ‘no, but I am always going to be around anyways. It was really cool."

The CSK opener further added that he had lunch with Dhoni and CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja.

Conway stated, "A couple of days ago I had lunch and sat in between MS and Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja). It was really cool just to get to know them better."

He said that both Dhoni and Jadeja are very humble and down-to-earth. Conway termed Dhoni as the best player in IPL history.

Meanwhile, Conway’s IPL debut for CSK was a poor one as he was dismissed for 3 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 opening match.
