Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made their onfield debut in Match 4 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Monday (March 28) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
GT captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first and his decision was vindicated by lead seamer Mohammad Shami who took three wickets in a three over spell with the new ball which reduced LSG to 29/4 in 5 overs. Deepak Hooda (55) and debutant Ayush Badoni (54) batted brilliantly to help the KL Rahul-led side recover to 158/6 in their 20 overs.
GT stumbled in their chase as they were reduced to 78/4 in the 12th over before David Miller (30), Rahul Tewatia (40*) and Abhinav Manohar (15*) ensured a five-wicket win for the side with two balls left.

The moment of the match was undoubtedly though when GT captain Hardik Pandya was dismissed for 33 by older brother Krunal Pandya. The brothers, who played together at Mumbai Indians for several years, winning multiple titles, were separated this season after the franchise chose not to retain them. Hardik was then chosen by Gujarat as captain in the draft, while Krunal was bought by Lucknow in the mega auction.
Hardik tried to take Krunal on but holed out at the long off boundary to Manish Pandey. Krunal, cheekily kept his hands on his mouth for a muted celebration as Hardik walked back to the pavilion.
At the post-match presentation, Hardik was asked about the dismissal, to which he replied, “Getting out to Krunal would have pinched me more had we lost, but now the family is neutral and happy. He got me out and we won the match.”
