On Sunday, March 27, the Delhi Capitals (DC) found a new hero in Lalit Yadav, who teamed up with seasoned campaigner Akshar Patel to help the Rishabh Pant-led side pull off a heist against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in match No. 2 of IPL 2022.
During their difficult run-chase of Mumbai Indians' (MI) 178-run target on Sunday, the Delhi Capitals appeared to be down and out when they lost an in-form Prithvi Shaw in the 9th over.
When Basil Thampi dismissed Shaw and Rovman Powell in the 10th over, Pant's Delhi Capitals were reduced to 72-5. Shaw's exciting knock of 38 off 24 balls included two sixes and four fours.
MI was on the verge of an easy win over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 match No.2 at the Brabourne Stadium, thanks to Murugan Ashwin's spin mastery and Basil Thampi's fast bowling exploits.
But then Lalit Yadav and Akshar Patel mounted a remarkable comeback at the Brabourne Stadium and added 75* runs and led Delhi Capitals to a dramatic 5-wicket win over Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians.
Patel and Yadav recalled their conversation on the field as they helped DC chase down the stiff target from a difficult position. A video of the conversation was posted by the IPL on their official Twitter.
"Yesterday, you told me before the match that... (laughs)... you told me my role. And our plan was only to take things to the end and that if we play together, we can win us the match," Lalit said. "That's why when I came to bat you said to me, 'Haath nahi chorhna, saath nahi chorhna', right?" Akshar added.
