Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Mayank Agarwal was happy with the way his team performed and won their first match of the ongoing IPL 2022 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday, March 27, at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
PBKS chased down a stiff target of 206 runs with ease in the 19th over to beat RCB by 5 wickets. After the impressive victory, the PBKS captain was glad that his team held their nerves and took the right chances to win their season opener on Sunday.
Agarwal said in the post-match presentation: “Two points very important. Very good wicket for batting as both sides scored 200 plus. We batted exceedingly well. One or two balls held up but nothing apart from that. It also became a lot easier to bat second due to dew. But credit to the way we finished – we held our nerves and took the right chances. I’m glad it came off.”
For RCB, captain Faf du Plessis played an 88-run knock off 57 balls and added over 100 runs with Virat Kohli (41*), and the PBKS skipper feels they gave them 15-20 runs more.
He concluded, “I thought we gave them (RCB) 15-20 runs more. The way Faf and Virat Kohli batted, I thought they took the game away for us, but credit to our batters to chase this down. We trust our skills. If it doesn’t come off, it doesn’t come off, but we are not going to panic and make a scene out of it.”
